![]() ![]() It is posted for entertainment value only. Anyone using this would be nuts to do so without spark-free fans, fresh air ventilation, organic vapor respirators and fire protection equipment. ![]() It may also be illegal in many air quality districts or violate fire codes. ![]() It uses a dangerous, highly-flammable solvent which can cause a flash fire if fumes get to any ignition source (garage-mounted hot water heaters are just one of many ignition sources). Part of the same procedure used to "de-dope" new Jensens (which take forever to break in because of the heavy doping) can *sometimes* rejuvenate old speakers (but not once they've failed - except at the glue seams alone).ĭisclaimer - I do not recommend the procedure noted below. The same is true of any brand of speakers. It hardens with age and WILL eventually fail if the amp is used often at medium volume. It's a completely different company.Īs far as power handling (and again, this came from the late Ted Weber, who never steered me wrong) you can figure 30-40 year old speakers will have lost about 1/3 of their original power handling - it's primarily because of the glue used to hold the cone together and the spider to the cone. They just have the same part numbers and in some cases similar power-handling capabilities.but not the same technical specs. Even then it was understood the two were not generally interchangeable - there are some exceptions in the higher-power handling speakers, but most of the HI-FI speakers aren't good guitar amp speakers and visa-versa.Īlso, for those who still might not be aware, current "Jensen" speakers are not the same as their vintage counterparts. As I recall in an old conversation with Ted Weber - just before he changed his numbering system to lessen confusion between his speakers and the so-called "Jensen Reissues" the "P" and "Q" models were specific to the musical instrument market and not on the same spec list (this list has been around before.there was a hard copy in my dad's things that was lost after h passed away) - this list, if you look at the intro, is a list of PA and Hi-FI speakers, which would be full-range speakers with a wider and flatter frequency response than those used in guitar amps. ![]()
